Cad é an Gaeilge ar "Screw you guys, I’m going home!”?

(On an almost related note, I was amused to notice a certain comic book character rendered as "An Splainc" as Gaeilge. Perfectly logical and reasonable, but amusing)

Just wondering how long my machine is going to survive tonight. There's something wrong with it - old age, probably - and I am having problems getting it to boot.

I think it is the old problem of the video card not making contact with the errr.... contacts... in the AGP slot, and I have lodged it in tightly, and I cleaned a couple of years worth of dust off and reinserted all the PCI cards. Seems to be hardware rather than software, and even then, I think there's nothing wrong with the components, as modern circuitry does have a certain binary quality: it works orit doesn't.

Although I had the "turning it on and only getting a green light" again, which is always fun.

A token "I'm still alive and might actually post something soon, but not today , as I'm doing other things"post. Doing exactly what it says on the tin.

Just saw on the news that Garage directed by Lenny Abrahamson has picked up a gong at Cannes.

I haven't seen the film, and I didn't know him well, but I did know Lenny to say hello to back in the day -and in those days it was Leonard - and I am delira to hear the news. Definitely one of the good guys.

I'm not a cat person.

[Ben Elton voice (circa 1987) in my head saying "Oh, controversial"]

But I'm not a cat person. They're over-rated.

But even I must ask: what sort of monster puts a little tinkling bell on their cat? I just had to restrain a rather big dog who was going ape-shit (scuse the French) trying to chase a poor little moggy, who, when last heard (tinkle-tinkle), had just sought refuge in a garden where I know there are quite a few big dogs, all with very good hearing.

(Random thought: Of course, saying that he didn't like cats would be the height of controversy for Ben Elton now.)

Was going to post something of a more substantial nature, but won't.

Current excuse? There's Mormons about, so there is. Nothing against them personally, but as I have explained before, I hate being rude to them, or to missionaries of any persuasion, so I will have to feign some sort of really urgent task or something. (Oh, the last time they were here, they wanted to me do some sort of poll, and I made the silly mistake of actually engaging with them - in a polite manner, I should stress - and querying the purpose and validity of a poll that (presumably) had a particular end - a particular result and particular conclusions to be drawn from that result. Alas, extemporaneous oral arguments are not really my strong point. Slamming the door would have been so much kinder for all involved.)

Anyway, I think it is safe to say that the the conceptual gulf between me and them isn't going to be bridged, so why delay them?

And what's worse, there's electioneers stalking the land, so really, who wants to open the door anyway?
